Convicted
March 8th, 2006 · Posted in Notes to Self ·It sucks when you are convinced that what you are doing is wrong. Espescially when you are at the penultimate episode of a series.
For later reference, the next episodes in each series that I have yet to watch are:
- Smallville - Season 5 ep 16
- 24 - Season 5 ep 10
- Battlestar Galactica - Season 2 ep 19 (page 81 Penny Arcade forums)
- Lost - Season 2 ep 16 (page 55 Penny Arcade forums)
I guess I’ll have more free time now…

So your not downloading anymore?
Interesting.

It wasn’t a quick (or easy) decision.
I don’t think it’s -wrong-, but it is illegal, and therefore I shouldn’t be doing it.
I’m still not sure why, but it is.
If someone can show me that it’s not, I’ll happily grab those last few episodes
I was discussing with someone yesterday, and we’re not entirely sure what the difference between him taping an episode and sending it to me, or him recording it and distributing it online is - is it just the fact that it is being given to thousands instead of one? And if so… where is the cut-off point?
Maybe I should just get one person to record them and download them directly from their PC, so they aren’t opened up for public distribution - is that OK?
I really don’t know.

I didn’t even think it was legal to tape anything off of TV for personal use let alone give it to anyone?

It gets even more convoluted when you realise there are multiple country’s laws being used too…
If it’s legal in the US to tape and give a copy (personal use), but not in Australia, is it still illegal, as the person doing the copying is following their laws?
(note: I haven’t checked US laws in this regard, but I’ve been led to believe that’s the deal)
