Forthcoming
April 17th, 2007 · Posted in Meta, Nerdery ·I’ve outlined why I haven’t been posting much, and hopefully they are acceptable reasons. If not, boohoo for you.
I started blogging with the goal of being disciplined and writing something every day for 30 days. I accomplished that task, and kept going for another 21 months. During that time I’ve moved house, changed church service, had another kid, had a sister get married, and the other finish school, move to the US, move back, and start working with a good friend of mine in the city. My mum changed jobs too, dad started guiding tours at Jenolan Caves. And I’ve slowed my posting rate considerably - from once a day to once a week. Or month.
So it kept me disciplined for a while, but life got busy and I got lazy.
What Now?
I’ve got a steadily growing list of things that I want to write about, but I’ve been having trouble getting started on any of them, much less finishing the posts I’ve begun. So here’s the new deal:
Regular rhythms rock - so I’ll aim to get something written once a week - Tuesday sounds like a good day (not least because it gives me seven days to come up with something for the next post). If I don’t have a new post up come next Wednesday morning, feel free to hassle me about it*.
I’ll also try line up several posts, so I can have them appear in a timely manner. And I’ll work at keeping them interesting and not echo stuff that’s already in the ’sphere.
Again, this is for me, everyone else just gets to listen to my thoughts**.

**Not literally (unless you’re an internet telepath - in which case, read this: “ “)!

Ian - I meant to post this on the last “page” about your downtime. You may want to use your magic internet power to make it appear on both, or I could just type it twice, though I am not sure how long I will be.
Anyway,
As many know Ian and I operate on a special wavelength, a wavelength that involves saying something like “FCC” and us giving each other a knowing smile.
The point is that I really enjoy reading Ian’s stuff, not just because he is my best friend but because I usually agree with what he has to say or enjoy thinking about what he has to say.
So,
I really don’t care if you just post a “Hey Guys look at this” post, where you just link to some other crazy site on the internet, this is based on two things 1) You usually don’t JUST post a link and nothing else, you usually say “here is a link” and “here are MY thoughts about the link”.(Usually well worth a read) and 2) Just posting a link to some crazy thing that was found on the internet is what constitutes 90% of my daily emails to AND from Ian on a daily basis!! (So much so that Ian has had to stop using my work email because he has been blacklisted by my spam blocker for just sending emails with a link and a few random words!! :))
Right, that was a lot longer than expected and in 20/20 hindsight it should have gone on last week’s post.
The point I am trying to make is that I love the site, I like hearing your thoughts on random things, I usually laugh at the same stupid things you do and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

Hey Dez, thanks for that.
I’ll still point out stuff that I like, but I want more of my own thoughts on things too. Thanks for the encouragement!

Lazy? Hmmm… maybe you got disciplined in other areas! I find it hard to call someone who gets up at the hour you do, works in the city (commuting from the mountains), stays involved in church, sees the number of people you do socially, has time for side-projects, loves his wife and 2 kids, and still finds time to post on his blog at least once per month LAZY?? Just disciplined in other areas I reckon
