Just a quick note: I was being sarcastic about the different versions having different content - They are the same, save having different covers :)

Nixter - I find the best way to finish books is to keep them in the bathroom, and read them when... doing my business. I've finished many books in the small room.

I thought the same as Spannalise, thought it was just a different front cover. I don't mind either way.. On book three at the moment, hope I make it to the end before the new one comes out but Iam only reading on the bus - better kick up the reading time or else there is no hope.

I remember reading that when they re-released the original few novels with the newer cover, they sold a whole bunch more.

I guess they just look classier on the shelf, and as so many adults seem to be afraid of being thought of as childish, the cartoony covers are very off-putting.

I have no qualms with watching cartoons and reading comics - I see them as just another medium (or large) - and it annoys me when people write them off simply because they used to watch childish cartoons when they were young.

Nice comment Chris.

I agree, when I look at some one reading the "G" version or the "MA" all I am going to see is "Hey, that guy is reading Harry Potter".

The way I figure it they're both are going to be so common... I mean do people get the "MA" version in the hope that others won't look at it and instatnly recognise it as a Harry Potter book?

(In loosely related news has Terry Pratchet done the same (changed distintive cover design) of his Discworld series?)

My advice to all those buying the "MA" version is "why bother?". If you don't want others to know that you read Harry Potter then don't read it in public, becuase, no matter which cover you have, when there have been 7 trillion of these sold both covers are going to be fairly well recognised.

D!

Dez!: Hasn't read any HP yet, but does have them on his "List of stuff to read before I die"

It blows *my* mind that the publisher feels the need to publish two versions of the book at all...

Would anyone embarrassed to read the kids version *not* be embarrassed to read the adult version? It's still a J.K. Rowling children's novel - changing the cover doesn't convince other people looking at you that you somehow more mature. It says "Harry Potter" in big letters.

I'd be a lot more embarrassed by an attempt to hide what I was reading, personally.

*shrugs*

I don't believe there is one at all, in the past i was under the impression that they just gave them a different cover for the poor insecure adults who couldn't handl the internal scrutiny they feared they were receiving by innocent bystanders for reading a childrens book...ie it was to make it look like it wasn'ta ctually aimed at kiddies.
I can't believe you've ordered one before me.

JD - I had to rescue your comment from the spam bin. I'm guessing it was because the bulk of the comment was 'gratuitous sex scene' :)

Kim - Yep - the pointless sex scenes are pretty annoying, even more so now they are creeping into TV shows and PG movies.

I'll have to get someone else to read the adult version, and let me know what the difference is :)
